Thanks for visiting! This blog is a work in progress, constructed for the students of Room 110 and their parents. I'm not sure where this blog will take us yet, but I'm TOTALLY excited at the prospects!

As of now, you can keep up to date on what goes on in the classroom via written entries and/or visuals*.

The more this blog is utilized, the more obvious its use and purpose will become. In the meantime, stay tuned, and enjoy!

*Please Note: To be featured on this site, parents/guardians MUST sign a release form allowing the usage of their child's image and/or likeness. Students who do not have written permission from a parent/guardian will not be featured.

Inquiring Minds

Winter Wonderland:

We're exploring winter, and all the treasures and curiosities it brings:

A. Pining for Answers:

Investigating a few pinecones of various shapes and sizes is all it took to interest students in finding out more about where they came from, why they are different shapes and sizes, why pine trees have pinecones, how long it takes for pinecones to grow, when pinecones grow, why pinecones fall down, and what the different parts of a pinecone are.

Philosophically Speaking

1. Children are capable people.

2. The process is more important than the product.

3. Teaching children how to think is more important than

teaching them to be correct:

Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.

When Your Child Asks "Why?"

When your child asks, "Why is there a moon?" don't reply with a scientific answer. Ask him, "What do you think?" He will understand that you are telling him, "You have your own mind and your own interpretation and your ideas are important to me." Then you and he can look for the answers; share the wonder, curiosity, and pain - everything. It is not the answers that are important, it is the process - that you and he search together.
